Vastu Shastra applies fully and effectively to apartments, whether in a low-rise building or a 60-storey tower in Downtown Dubai. While villas offer more autonomy over the land orientation and external surroundings, apartments benefit enormously from Vastu analysis of the internal layout — particularly the entrance direction, bedroom placement relative to the compass, and the position of the kitchen. In high-rise buildings, we also consider the floor level, the orientation of the building's main entrance, and the position of the apartment within the floor plate. A kitchen in the north is considered a significant Vastu imbalance because the north zone is governed by Kuber (the lord of wealth) and associated with the water element, while the kitchen's fire energy actively disrupts the wealth-generating potential of this zone. However, 'serious' does not mean 'irreparable without renovation'. In most cases, we can substantially neutralise this imbalance through the placement of specific colours, remedial yantras, and strategic use of the cooking area — for example, by ensuring the cook always faces east while cooking, using green and blue tones in the kitchen, and placing water features in the northeast corner of the apartment to reinforce that element. Absolutely — this is one of the most common and impactful applications of residential Vastu. The ideal zone for a child's room in Vastu is the west, northwest, or east of the property. The north is also acceptable. The southwest should be avoided for children's rooms, as it is the zone of heaviness and can create excess lethargy or stubbornness in young occupants. For the nursery itself, we recommend soft, warm colours with green accents, a crib positioned so the child's head points east or south while sleeping, and the avoidance of heavy storage or dark tones in the northeast corner of the room.
